Best Places to Eat in Rotorua
Rotorua has some incredible cafes and restaurants. We’ve narrowed down our top picks which we think will satisfy all types of travellers. Here are the best of the best:
Eastwood Café
Eastwood Café is one of Rotorua’s newest additions. Eastwood is the more relaxed and down to earth sister of the equally popular Terrace Kitchen, which is great for dinners, cocktails and special occasions. Located in the Whakarewarewa Forest just beyond the Redwoods i-SITE, Eastwood is a compulsory pit stop before or after your walk or bike ride. We recommend their sourdough wood-fired pizzas (there are also great kids pizza options), selection of cabinet food and great coffee.
El Mexicano Zapata
This place is a Mexican food lover’s dream. It’s got all the crowd favourites: burritos, quesadillas, nachos, tacos, empanadas, and of course, great margaritas and churros. The restaurant is small and intimate but bursting with vibrant décor. We highly recommend booking in advance to avoid disappointment, as there is a limited number of tables. However, they also do takeaway and delivery, so there’s no need to miss out!
Capers Café
If you are looking for a great brunch spot, Capers is the way to go. Their breakfast and lunch menu is available from 7am-2pm every day, and has several gluten free, vegetarian and vegan options. Their huge cabinet is also filled to the brim with savoury dishes, salads, cakes and more. There’s something for everyone here, including a menu just for the kids. After your food and (amazing) organic fair-trade coffee, browse their shop inside the café which has great treats to take home, and some good souvenirs.
Our House
Our House is down Eat Streat, one of the best places to find food in Rotorua. Our pick is Our House because it’s a great place to take the whole family, with classic Kiwi food and a great atmosphere. Their Daily Deals are an absolute steal, with Fish and Chip Fridays, Soup and Sunday Roast, Steak Night, and great food for the kids. Open from breakfast ‘til dinner, make sure to check out their Facebook page to find out what the daily deals are during your visit!
Trail Kitchen
Trail Kitchen is another new addition to the Rotorua food scene at the Waipa Mountain Bike Park. Take a break from riding the trails to have some breakfast or lunch. Big breakfasts, French toasts, salads, smoothies, and great coffee – what more could you ask for?
We hope you’ve gotten some ideas for where to eat on your next trip to Rotorua. Hope to see you soon!
