Mountain Bike in the Whakarewarewa Forest
Mountain biking in the Whakarewarewa Forest is free to everyone and caters to all ages and abilities. The best place to start your day of mountain biking in the forest is via the Waipa mountain bike carpark off State Highway 5 (just a short bike from us here at Rotorua Thermal Holiday Park).
Of course, there are kids loop trails, beginner loops as well as fast-paced downhill trails with jumps and everything in between! The trails have weird and wacky names like Eagle Vs Shark, Hot X Buns and Be Rude Not To. Mountain biking in the spectacular Whakarewarewa ‘Redwoods’ forest is an absolute must do while you’re in Rotorua.

Fancy a crack at those freestyle tricks, jumps & backflips? Now you can have a go with Velocity Valley’s Freestyle Airbag. Catering to beginners (8 years+) right through to professional riders, the downhill ramps and airbag provides safety and confidence to get out and practice those jumps! Riders must supply their own bikes, helmets and safety gear.
